So I have just started playing the game with my boyfriend and I thought it might be good to get someone elses opinion of my deck. Any thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated.

Since I just finished typing up general suggestions for another topic here (with someone who surprisingly was also doing a mostly-Alara block artifact deck), I'll just copy-paste the parts that are relevant to you here.

1) For most official matchtypes, your deck must be a minimum of 60 cards. While the only maximum is how many cards you can shuffle without assistance, this should never come into play, as you want to be *at* 60 cards (except for a few trick decks that are not good enough for tournament play). The more cards you add, the less likely you are to draw the best cards in your deck. You seem to be at 61 cards.

2) You want your lands and mana-producing artifacts to be roughly 35-40% of your deck typically. Certain mana-hungry decks like 5-Color Control will frequently push up to about 50% land/mana artifacts. Your deck is slightly over 40%, and is not very mana-hungry at all.

3) You never want just one of anything in your deck. In most games, you won't even get halfway through your deck, so to have a decent chance of drawing it, you need at least 2. If it's a card that you don't care whether you draw, just remove it and add another one of a card that is more important to your deck. Plus, if you only have one and it is your game-winner, it's too easy for your opponent to counterspell or immediately remove it from the game.

3a) The general rule is: if you want the card in your deck, put in 4 of them. If it is too mana hungry for you to want more than one in your starting hand (usually the boundary on this is around 5 -6 mana), then drop it back down to 3 or 2 in your deck. After doing this, then start evaluating which cards are the least important to you and removing them.

As for your deck, that's clearly an artifact deck, though most artifact decks add in black as well. The basis of an Alara block artifact deck is Master Transmuters, Sphinx Sovereigns, Sanctum Gargoyles, and Sharuums. Most of them run Tidehollow Scullers, just for the early ability to at least temporarily remove the best card in your opponent's hand. You'll also almost definitely want 4 Oblivion Rings (to take care of enemy planeswalkers) and 4 Elspeth, Knight-Errants (the best planeswalker in the game, and only requires 2 white and 2 colorless to play), if you are willing to pay for them.
