How should I end each row in double chain crocheting?

Do I or do I not add a single chain stitch on the end of each row? Or should I do it on alternating rows? It seems my blankets are never even.
See, that's how little I know about crocheting! I guess I mean double crochet (dc) because that description is what I'm doing!

double chain crocheting?? I do not understnad this term. I have been crocheting for almost 55 years but this makes no sense to me.

Do you mean double crochet as opposed to single crochet rows?

In order to raise a row on say an afghan, in single crochet, you chain 1 and crochet in the loops immediately under the chain. In half double crochet you chain 2 to raise the next row and skip the holes directly under the chain and go to the 2nd loops to make the stitch. The ch 2 counting as the first stitch in the second and next rows. In double crochet, you chain 3 and skip the loops directly under the ch 3, going ot the 2nd loops to make the 2nd stitch of the row.

This will not ever look exactly even until you put the border on the blanket or afghan. That is why we put borders on them.
